Zambian President Frederick Chiluba, chief mediator of the Lusaka peace deal, said he had been informed by the RCD of the alleged ceasefire violation and was trying to verify it. If the claim was true, it represented “a serious setback” but not a resumption of war, Reuters news agency reported him as saying. “We will investigate and see how to bring the process back on track,” Chiluba added.
