Ahmed Ould Daddah,leader of the Mauritanian opposition party Union des Forces democratiques/Ere Nouvelle (UFD/EN), was arrested upon his arrival at the Nouakchott International Airport on Saturday afternoon, according to a press statement issued by the party.
The UFD/EN demanded his immediate release and urged the international community to pressure the government into respecting democracy and human rights. Ould Daddah party’s was banned in October for allegedly threatening public order.
