Opposition leader released

Ahmed Ould Daddah, leader of Mauritania’s main opposition party, has been released by the authorities after being held for three days, AFP reported on Tuesday. Ould Daddah, secretary-general of the Union des Forces democratiques/Ere Nouvelle (UFD/EN) had been arrested on his arrival at Nouakchott International Airport on Saturday. The government did not issue any statement about the detention of the politician, who told AFP after his release that he was worried about his country. The government banned the UFD/EN in October for allegedly threatening public order.
