Congratulations to our regular contributing photographer Julius Mwelu for receiving the Young Reporter’s Award at the Bayeux-Calvados international awards for his photos of post-election violence in Kenya in early 2008.

The Young Reporter’s Award worth 3,000 euros covers press, radio, photo and TV reporting, and the intention is to “reward the work of a young reporter” who should not be over 28.

This year the Bayeux-Calvados event awarded eight prizes in all media categories - to honour correspondents who “risk their lives in the world’s hotspots”.

Visit IRIN’s photo page for samples of Julius’s photographs.
