Ghanaians return to the polls on 28 December

    ABIDJAN

    The Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC) has selected 28 December 2000 as the date for the second round of presidential elections, the ‘Daily Graphic’ in Accra reported.

    The run-off will pit Vice President John Atta Mills of the ruling National Democratic Coalition (NDC) against John Kuffour of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

    Mills won 44.9% of the votes in the 7 December first round, while 48.35 percent went to Kuffour. Post-electoral violence, which had claimed 10 lives, led to the arrest of 12 people in the northeastern region of Bawku, ‘Daily Graphic’ reported.
