Just in case you missed it, the new poverty line as drawn by the World Bank from August this year is $1.25 a day and not “a dollar a day” as has been the case since 1990.
The new poverty yardstick is based on improvements in internationally comparable price data, which offer a much more accurate picture of the cost of living in developing countries.
