Long-lasting insecticidal bed nets and non-treated mosquito nets are being used to catch and dry fish along Lake Victoria in Kenya, reports the Voices for a Free-Free Future the online journal and current issue of the Malaria Journal in Unforeseen misuses of bed nets in fishing villages along Lake Victoria.
The fish not only dry faster, they don’t stick to the nets and the nets are cheap.
In Zambia, the nets make for good fishing tools and bridal veils.
In many other counties including Uganda, they are used for trapping edible ants.
Mosquito nets = malaria control only? Think again.
