Alive and on land finally, but…

Many Somali refugees in Yemen are unemployed and depend on food assistance. Mohammed al-Jabri/IRIN

The Guardian released a photo slideshow on migrants arriving in Italy by boat from North Africa. The series is by Christian Sinibaldi. The pictures are sad and often heart-breaking.

IRIN has explored migration across continents in a series of short video clips, articles and personal testimonies. Here are some recent short videos and personal testimonies from us from Egypt, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.

In the short video clip Somali refugees in Yemen, Somali refugees talk about their harsh living conditions in Yemen.

Another video clip, Sudanese struggle in the streets of Cairo, profiles the problems faced by single mother Victoria Achol Jaal, a Sudanese refugee in Egypt.

In the video clip Iraqis in Syria, Iraqi refugees in Syria talk about their poor living conditions and uncertain future.

Finally, in Yemen is still my destination Genet Mengesha, a 24-year-old mother of one and a former university student, leaves home in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, shortly after the 2005 elections to reach Yemen through the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland, northeastern Somalia. We have not heard from her since.
