Thousand’s of babies born with HIV

Thousands of Zambian babies are born infected with HIV, ‘The Post’ newspaper reported this week. UNICEF representative, Peter McDermott, was quoted as saying that many of these children could expect a life expectancy of five to six years. “We should not under estimate what this problem can do to a country. Unless something serious is done, urgently, HIV/AIDS will affect the country in all spheres of life,” McDermott said. He added that Africa and other developing countries should be not discouraged from fighting the disease because of scarce financial resources.
