Libyan leader among the first guests

The Libyan leader, Moammar Gadhafi, on his first foreign trip since the lifting of sanctions against Tripoli, arrived in South Africa at the weekend. Media reports described it as a visit aimed at formally saying farewell to Mandela, who called the Libyan leader a “longtime ally”. Gadhafi, who will attend the Mbeki inauguration, the reports said, would also discuss his initiatives on seeking a ceasefire in the Democratic republic of Congo (DRC).
