New government formed

Map of Guinea-Bissau
There are two new faces in the 24-member cabinet named on Friday in Guinea by newly appointed Prime Minister Lamine Sidime. According to AFP, only the former ministers of fisheries and social affairs, Boubacar Barry and Saran Daraba have lost their posts. Sidibe was appointed prime minister, replacing Sydia Toure, followed the swearing in of President Lansana Conte, who was re-elected on 14 December 1998. No reason was given for dropping Toure, a technocrat close to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), AFP said.
