A new partnership which Britain and France plan to forge jointly with African nations is to focus on development, stability and democracy, according to British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook. “Our aim must be to create an Africa of stability,” Cook said yesterday at a joint Franco-British Africa Heads of Mission Conference in Abidjan.”Our joint diplomacy must be geared to resolving conflict and tackling their underlying causes.” France and Britain have to work together to release Africa’s natural and human resources to enrich its people and “to create an Africa of democracy”, he added.
