Displaced in other towns in “dire need”

Conflict-affected displaced persons outside Freetown are also in “dire need” of emergency aid, UNICEF said. In a report received by IRIN yesterday, UNICEF said medical, food and sanitation assistance was urgently required for some 15,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) between Kambia town and the Guinea border, over 2,500 IDPs in Bo town and up to 40,000 IDPs in Kenema. Residents of major towns in Koinadougou, Kono, Tonkilili and Bombali districts, which remain inaccessible, have fled to outlying villages, the report said. An outbreak of severe diarrhoea has hit the Kambia area, while a measles outbreak has been reported in Pujehun, UNICEF added.
