The number of IDPs in the interior of Pool region, which surrounds Brazzaville, remains unknown
The Christian NGO Jeunesse etudiante chretienne (JEC) has set up 44 "centres of peace" to help young people affected by poverty and conflict in the Republic of Congo (RoC), JEC said. The NGO told IRIN that centres had been formed in the capital, Brazzaville, as well as in Kinkala, Nkayi, Owando, Ouesso, and Pointe-Noire. It said that with funding from UNESCO, the World Bank and the UN Development Programme worth US $12,187, a total of 320 young people from the country's five dioceses had been trained in the techniques of conflict resolution. Training sessions concentrated on youth and human rights; youth, conflict and the future, and the socio-economic implications of constructing peace in the ROC. JEC said it aimed to set up 52 centres for peace in each diocese in the country.
