Burundi army operations "confidential"

Burundi's army spokesman Colonel Longin Minani said on Tuesday that army
operations were "confidential". He was reacting to reports by Azania news
agency which said that Burundi's armed forces had launched a general
offensive against rebel positions in Kayogoro commune, southeastern
Burundi, in order to cut off the road to rebels who are reportedly engaged
in "massive infiltrations" from Tanzania. "Azania does not command the
army," he told IRIN. "Even if we were launching offensives, we do not
have to say so, because we would be doing our duty." Minani said rebel
attacks were likely to increase, especially in the lead-up to the Arusha
talks.
