The rising number of orphaned and vulnerable Zambian children is a time bomb that needs attention before it explodes, chairperson of Zambia’s NGO Coordinating Committee (NGOCC) said.
According to media reports, Inonge Wina said the more than 700,000 Zambian children who live on the streets was a manifestation of poverty that the government needs to pay more attention to. “Poverty reduction policies are too centralised and the affected people are not consulted,” Wina said.
Wina argued that the Zambian government lacks the ability or willingness to prioritise the issues of poverty reduction and ensuring that all its people have access to social services.
