Mandela celebrates 82nd birthday

Former South African President Nelson Mandela on Tuesday celebrated his 82nd birthday at his Johannesburg home with his family ahead of his departure for Tanzania where he is expected to put the finishing touches to a peace accord to end the conflict in Burundi, his office said. Mandela, who on the eve of his birthday said: “I feel almost 80 again,” also celebrates the second anniversary of his marriage to Graca Machel of Mozambique on Tuesday. Mandela replaced the late former Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere as mediator in the Burundi peace process.
