Pay rises for commercial workers

Workers and employers in Zimbabwe’s commercial sector have agreed on wage increases of up to 45 percent for the next six months, the ‘Financial Gazette’ said on Thursday.

The agreement, concluded last week, will increase minimum wages and salaries for the lowest paid workers by 45 percent with effect from this month while the highest paid employees will have their salaries raised by 35 percent. More than 5,000 workers will benefit from the agreement, added the reports.

“The agreement is valid for six months and will expire on December 31 this year,” said Cosmas Chanda, chief designated agent for the National Employment Council (NEC) for the Commercial Sectors of Zimbabwe.
