Supreme Court annuls election results in four constituencies

Cameroon's Supreme Court on Wednesday cancelled the results of the 30 June parliamentary polls in four constituencies and ordered fresh elections there, state radio reported.

The decision was the first taken by the court on post-election petitions filed by political parties, CTRV radio reported. Some 127 petitions were admitted by the court, which began examining them on Wednesday.

The cancellation of the parliamentary elections in Mifi, Sanaga Maritime, Benoue West and Mofou-Akono was in response to complaints filed by the opposition.

Opposition parties as well as religious groups had said earlier this month that both legislative and council elections, held concurrently, had been marred by widespread irregularities, including the stuffing of ballot boxes and voter intimidation. However, the court declared itself incompetent to examine petitions concerning the local government polls.
