PTC employees strike

Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (PTC) workers countrywide went on strike on Tuesday, protesting against management’s decision to unilaterally cut their salaries by up to 56 percent, news reports said. The industrial action has left people nationwide out of touch with the rest of the world as postal and telecommunications services have been severely disrupted. The acting chief executive of the PTC, Aggay Nyamaina-she, was quoted as saying that the strike action was illegal. “The issue of salary discrepancies has been under negotiation with the union for five months now. Management is effecting salaries in terms of statutory instrument 26 of 2000 while a lasting solution is being sought.”
