Mozambique police have dispersed about 200 protesting refugees, most of them from Africa’s Great Lakes region, who had camped outside the UNHCR office in Maputo demanding to be transferred from Africa, news reports said on Monday.
Reports said the refugee had come from two camps in Maputo Province, walking about 50 km to reach Maputo. Last week the refugees staged a protest outside the UNHCR offices in Maputo complaining about their living conditions and demanded to be moved outside Africa where they expected better conditions.
