Mbeki, Nujoma discuss trade

    JOHANNESBURG

    South African president Thabo Mbeki and his Namibian counterpart Sam Nujoma have weighed the options for routing more South African freight through Namibia’s main port at Walvis Bay.

    South African news reports said the talks on Tuesday following the Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit in Namibia, were part of wider discussions on how the two neighbouring countries could make better use of joint mineral production, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure in areas where they shared joint interests.

    Officials said they also discussed the feasibility of a trans-Kalahari highway which would link Walvis Bay on the Atlantic coast of southern Africa with the Indian Ocean ports of Mozambique via the Johannesburg district.
