Fresh displacements reported

A total of 1,500 new internally displaced persons, citing insecurity and hunger, have fled to The Adikeshi camp in Eritrea from Layla Gash, an area reportedly still under control of Ethiopian forces, WFP reported.

In its latest update on the situation at the weekend, WFP also said displaced people who had been in hiding were returning to Barentu, Hykota, Tessenei and Guluj: “WFP plans to supply around 2,000 mt of food to a total of 107,000 war affected returnees in these areas during the coming week.”

As of 9 August, it added, a total of 22,000 Eritreans had been repatriated from Sudan. Details of the latest WFP report on Ethiopia and Eritrea can be viewed at:
