IFC executive to visit

The executive vice president of the International Finance Corporation, Peter Woicke, is expected to conduct a seven-day mission to Chad, Ghana and Nigeria to examine IFC’s investments and ongoing development projects in the three West African countries, the IFC said in a press release on Thursday.

In Nigeria, Woicke’s mission will focus on reform plans for the financial sector, privatisation, and the promotion of small and medium-sized businesses. He is also to review efforts to develop the oil-rich Niger Delta region. In Chad, his attention will centre on the Chad-Cameroon Petroleum Development and Pipeline Project, which involves drilling for oil in southern Chad and transporting it through a 1,070-km pipeline through Cameroon, the IFC said. In Ghana, where IFC’s portfolio now totals US $62 million, the mission will target the mining sector, enhance private-sector growth, and promote information technology.

Part of the World Bank Group, the IFC finances private sector investments in emerging markets and developing countries as means to promote development.
