Rebel FDD military chief suspended

The rebel Forces pour la defense de la democratie (FDD) has suspended its military chief accusing him of “murder”, news organisations reported at the weekend. According to AFP, Major Prime Ngendakumana, is charged with “being the instigator of the April 2000 killing at southeastern Makamba of fellow FDD senior officer, commander Joseph Nduwayo,” AFP quoted a rebel source as saying. His suspension took effect on Thursday, while a successor has not been named, AFP said. It quoted sources close to the rebel group as reporting dissensions within the movement over the past week which could compromise negotiations with the Bujumbura government, but they did not elaborate.
