The Namibian Society for Human Rights (NSHR) told IRIN on Wednesday that a Namibian Defence Force (NDF) captain was killed on Monday by villagers in the Kavango region.
Zen Mnakapa, a spokesman for the NSHR told IRIN that the incident took place at Mbunya village, about 40 km west of Rundu. He said that according to villagers the officer, who commanded the NDF company based at Mbunya, allegedly entered the village claiming he was a “UNITA bandit”.
Mnakapa said the soldier was attacked with a bow and arrow by the villagers “acting in self-defence as they attempted to protect their lives and property”.
