World Bank loans for The Gambia, Guinea

The Gambia is due to receive a US $15-million credit from the World Bank to set up a Capacity Building for Economic Management Project, the Bank reported on Friday. The aims of the project are to support the government in implementing economic policy, and to help it reform legal and financial systems to facilitate foreign investment and private sector development.

Guinea is to receive two loans totaling US $120 million to help it reform education and reduce poverty. US $70 million will go to a 12-year ‘Education for all’ project aimed at increasing access to primary schooling and high-quality education.
US $50 million will be used to improve social services for vulnerable populations and support ongoing privatisation efforts.
