US development grant

The United States granted Benin on Monday US $11.3 million to support three areas of development, the Panafrican News Agency (PANA) reported. The education sector was allocated $5.7 million, which is to go towards funding new syllabuses - particularly for French and mathematics - and teacher training. Family health care is to get US $4.2 million, mainly for HIV prevention, while the remaining US $1.4 million is to be used to promote democratic principles and good governance, and strengthen the role of civil society.
