The government of Burundi has embarked on a six-month programmed for the country’s economic recovery, Burundi radio said on Friday. It quoted Burundi’s finance minister, Charles Nihangaza, as telling representatives of the donor community. “This is the first meeting. Next week we shall visit each donor individually to find out what their assistance will be,” he said. “As you have seen, this programme is a tough one. We are unable to repay foreign debts and farmers without foreign assistance,” Nihangaza added. The government started the programme this month.
