Zimbabwean opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai has asked the United States to pressure President Robert Mugabe to accept international observers ahead of next year’s presidential election in Zimbabwe, Channel Africa reported on Thursday. He said the United States and the international community must demand free and fair elections.
Tsvangirai said international observers should be sent to Zimbabwe at least three months before the election to ensure stability and reassure the people. The head of the MDC is on his last international tour in Washington before the election. He is scheduled to meet with US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and business and political leaders before departing for Europe.
