A white housewife, tired of the racism that plagues the Northern Province, has established the Anti Racism Movement (ARM), African Eye News Service reported on Tuesday. According to the report, members display bright red stickers that boldly state: “Right of Admission Reserved, No Racists Allowed”. Despite costing R200 each, the stickers were gaining popularity and could be seen on shop windows and in government offices. Jeanne Nolte launched her campaign on 15 June.
Anyone who experiences racism in a building bearing the sticker can mmediately report to ARM and a senior member, or inspector, will be dispatched to investigate the matter. “If we find racism, we will remove the sticker,” explained the 39-year-old musician. The person accused of racism will then be charged under the Discrimination Act of 2000 if warranted. “The fight against racism has to be as strong as the fight against crime,” she was quoted as saying. Nolte criticised national and international seminars on racism for failing to address problems at grassroots level. “These seminars end in lengthy debates and formulate solutions, which are then drafted into petitions and printed on glossy brochures but do very little to change people on the ground,” she said, urging political leaders not to shy away or become offended when debate centred on racism.
“Instead, people should welcome the opportunities and help reach solutions to end this animosity within our society.”
