The Zimbabwean government said on Wednesday an acute fuel shortage gripping the country should gradually ease after its main supplier agreed to resume supplies while repayment hitches were being ironed out, news reports said.
“IPG (Independent Petroleum Group of Kuwait) has agreed to provide continuous supplies while repayments are being worked out,” Munyaradzi Hwengwere, a spokesman for the government’s task force on fuel, was quoted as saying.
He said supplies from IPG were being “swallowed up” on a daily basis due to depleted reserves. “We don’t have fuel reserves at the moment, we just have enough fuel to survive on a day-to-day basis and it is not an ideal situation,” Hwengwere said.
