EU, government sign poverty alleviation agreement

    JOHANNESBURG

    Namibia and the European Union on Wednesday signed a poverty alleviation agreement worth an estimated US $4 million, news reports said on Thursday.

    Reports said the money would be used to fund micro-projects programme to support rural communities in combating poverty. The scheme would also support farmers through the construction of small dams and wells, and the provision of vegetable gardens and horticulture. Fish ponds would also be developed, and women’s groups supported in food processing. The main objective of the programme, reports said, was to improve the living conditions of women.
