Lagos State is to launch a school-feeding programme that would provide primary school children with free meals, the Lagos-based ‘Vanguard’ reported the state’s commissioner for education, Idowu Shobowale, as saying. A one-month pilot phase will start on Monday in a few selected schools after which state officials are to decide on extending the programme to all primary schools. Officials hope the programme will improve children’s learning capabilities. The state estimates that it will spend about US $8.6 million per month to run the project, ‘Vanguard’ reported.
