Opposition leader freed.

Joseph Nzeyimana, the president of the pro-Tutsi Rally for Democracy, Economic and Social Development (RADDES) party, which supports Colonel Epitace Bayaganakandi’s candidature for the transitional presidency), was released on Thursday after spending the night at the Special Bureau of Investigations [BSR], the private Netpress news agency reported. He was accused of making “false accusations” after a meeting of Bayaganakandi supporters was broken up by police earlier in the week. “Mr Nzeyimana who was responding to summons by BSR, spent the night in the company of suspects accused of having taken part, in one way or another, in the attempted coup of 18 April 2001. He was only released after paying a 10,000 Burundian francs fine,” Netpress said.
