The Eritrean government has signed an oil exploration agreement with a US company, CMS Oil and Gas, official Eritrean radio said on 4 May. The agreement gives the company the right to drill for oil in an area known as Block Dismin, covering 13,860 sq km of land and water in northeastern Eritrea, the report said. Energy Minister Tesfay Gebreselase and the deputy president of CMS Oil and Gas, Robert C. Olsen, signed the agreement at the Ministry of Energy and Mines in Asmara on 4 May, in the presence of the US ambassador to Eritrea, William Clarke. CMS Oil and Gas sells US $9 billion worth of oil-based products annually worldwide, the radio said.
