Forum on maternal and neonatal mortality

A two-day regional forum on maternal and neonatal mortality reduction began on Monday in the Malian capital, Bamako, a UNICEF source in Abidjan told IRIN. The forum, organised jointly by the Malian government and the UN children’s agency, aims to mobilise national and international decision-makers to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. During the meeting delegates also aim to advocate for policies to improve maternal and newborn health care, increase awareness on the issue of mother and child mortality in West and Central Africa and share common experiences, UNICEF said. Participants include government representatives, the UN, NGO’s and other key partners.
