FRODEBU calls for implementation of peace agreement

A meeting of opposition FRODEBU leaders held in Nairobi, Kenya, ended on Wednesday with the leaders concluding that the way to peace was implementation of the agreement reached between the 19 parties in Arusha. “First, a transitional government to lead Burundi without waiting for the end of the war should be set up,” FRODEBU leader (in exile) Jean Minani told the BBC Kirundi service. “That government will have the means and power to inform rebels about what Burundians want - they want peace - and to call them for talks,” he said. “The current government has failed to do it and it will never succeed...It wants to fight and it will never succeed. Burundians will only continue to die. That is the main agreement we reached.” Minani said the meeting also noted that the pro-Tutsi G10 parties were fighting over power and pointed out that this would bring problems. “Therefore we have decided to help them,” he said, without elaborating.
