At least 52 Sierra Leonean refugees are still missing after their overloaded passenger boat sank off the coast of Guinea on Sunday, news sources in Conakry told IRIN.
One source said another 51 passengers on the makeshift craft were rescued by a South Korean fishing trawler. He said that no bodies had yet been washed ashore.
The Sierra Leonean refugees had set sail from Conakry’s Port de Boussoura for Freetown. Since February, thousands of refugees have been repatriated safely on ships chartered by the International Organization for Migration.
