Group to rebuild churches in Kaduna

A group known as the Macedonian Initiative (MI) plans to offer material and financial help to Christians and rebuild churches affected by riots in the northern city of Kaduna last year, the Nigerian daily 'This Day' reported on Wednesday.

Pastor Ladi Thompson, one of MI's initiators, said the organization was ready to provide relief items including food, shelter and clothes to those still finding it difficult to support themselves. Financial help would also be available to enable them to restart businesses.

Clashes between Muslims and Christians over the proposed introduction of Sharia Law in February 2000 left well over 100 people dead with countless others wounded, maimed or destitute following the burning of houses and belongings. Mosques and churches were also attacked during the riots.

The MI was created last year under the umbrella of the Christian Association of Nigeria.
