UN sends inter-agency mission to identify priority needs

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has decided to send an inter-agency mission to West Africa to take stock of the region's main needs and challenges and make recommendations on a coordinated UN response to its problems, UN News reported on Friday. The mission will be led by Ibrahima Fall, Assistant Secretary-General, Department of Political Affairs. It will visit Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Togo on 6-26 March. A representative of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will also participate in the mission, which will include officials from 10 UN departments.
