Top judge to quit on Wednesday - state media

Zimbabwe's chief justice, Anthony Gubbay, will retire on Wednesday, three months earlier than originally announced, state media reported on Tuesday. Gubbay, under pressure to quit from the government, was expected to resign from the Supreme Court on 30 June. But the 'Herald' newspaper said that the government had cut short Gubbay's term after he allegedly reneged on an earlier agreement to take four months leave in March. "Chief Justice Anthony Gubbay will leave office tomorrow (Wednesday), clearing the way for the immediate appointment of a substantive head of the judiciary," the 'Herald' said.
