Itissalat Al Maghreb, Morocco’s telephone company, has bought 54 percent of Mauritania’s Mauritel to enable a strategic and technical partnership ahead of the planned privatisation of the state-owned telecommunications utility, Mauritanian Television reported on Sunday. It said a three-percent stake would be ceded to the company’s workers. The new buyer has also pledged to develop Mauritania’s telecommunications network and cover all its major towns within the next five years.
