Senate approves new ministers

Ten ministerial nominees submitted by President Olusegun Obasanjo to Nigeria’s Senate for consideration following last month’s cabinet shake-up have been approved, news organisations reported on Thursday.

The reshuffle was the first major change in the composition of the federal cabinet since Obasanjo became Nigeria’s first elected president in May 1999 after 15 years of military rule.

Reuters news agency said the approval of the nominees without much delay was a sign that Obasanjo’s previously difficult relations with the legislature had improved significantly. The new minsters were sworn in on Thursday.
