Minimum wage agreed

    JOHANNESBURG

    The Angolan Confederation of Unions (UNTA-CS) and the government have agreed to set the minimum monthly wage at US $50, a union official was quoted as saying on Wednesday. "We have agreed on a minimum wage of US $50. The confederation had proposed US $300 and the government US $30 when they opened the discussion," said Manuel Viage, UNTA-CS secretary general. UNTA-CS had staged strikes on 12-13 December and 8-13 January to push for higher wages. Another strike planned for 5-10 February has been cancelled following the deal, Viage told AFP,
