Finance Minister Simba Makoni is in Washington this week to seek direct talks with World Bank president James Wolfenson and IMF managing director Horst Kohler in a attempt to win back crucial aid suspended by the two bodies two years ago, the 'Financial Gazette' said on Thursday.
The report quoted diplomats as saying that it would be "nearly impossible" for Makoni to convince the two bodies for immediate aid. The minister last week told the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that he was pinning his hopes of an economic recovery in Zimbabwe on peace being achieved in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Zimbabwe has about 11,000 troops in the DRC costing it at least US $1 million a month.
