Government accused of delaying elections

Lesotho’s Interim Political Authority (IPA) has accused Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili’s government of delaying tactics in holding up the presentation of legislation in parliament necessary for the country’s general elections, news reports said on Tuesday. The IPA has denied allegations by Mosisili that the authority is responsible for any delays. It said the delays on its side were due to new technology for voter registration. The authority instead accused the government of marking time on the passing of a bill on a new electoral model to be used in the election. The IPA said the delays would impact negatively on the proposed new timetable for elections that are scheduled for March or April next year.
