Refugees fear for their safety, food security, UNHCR told

Refugees at the Nyaedou camp in southern Guinea told UNHCR’s regional director for West Africa, Abou Moussa, that they feared for their safety and were worried about food security, UNHCR reported. Moussa, who visited the camp on Wednesday, was also concerned about the safety of aid workers.

The volatile situation in southern Guinea poses a risk to some 300,000 refugees and 250 humanitarian workers who are trying to help them, UNHCR said. There are also 150,000 - mainly Liberian - refugees living in camps around the southeastern Guinea town of Nzerekore.
