Three members of the banned Union des forces democratiques-ere nouvelle (UFD-EN) in Mauritania, who were detained since early December, were freed on Sunday, the Panafrican News Agency (PANA) reported. The Mauritanian government had accused them of "threatening national security" and instigating an anti-government graffiti campaign during political unrest last month. Their release came a few days after the Supreme Court upheld an October 2000 government decree dissolving the UFD-EN.
