MDC allege supporters kidnapped

Thirteen supporters of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said on Tuesday they had been kidnapped by security officers in the politically volatile southern town of Bikita and dumped in a game park, the independent ‘Daily News’ reported.

They alleged they were bundled into two vehicles by plain clothes security men and driven to the remote Gonarezhou reserve. The 13 were part of a group of MDC youths arrested in Bikita on Thursday last week for alleged political violence in the campaign for the vacant Bikita West parliamentary seat. The police said they planned to investigate the case, but warned the MDC against making false accusations.
